No Excuses

OK, came across this and my heart sunk... I can no longer tell myself the following myths:

1. The reason for my protuberant gut is because I have birthing children destroys abdominal musculature.
2. One cannot expect a lot out of an over-40 body.
3. The reason my metabolism is slow is because of my sedentary knitting lifestyle.
4. The reason I knit is because it is winter in New England and it is too cold to get out and exercise.

This chick is a 50 year old mother of two who lives in Canada (also cold) and has a knitting blog...Really...I'm not kidding...she exists...(Dang it).

My Man's Best Friend

Now that we've been married for 9 years, I decided to knit my husband a sweater. Thanks to the sales at Jimmy Beans Wool, I could afford the amount of yarn necessary for the task and chose this wonderful twisted red/black wool...perfect for a card-shark.

The pattern, First Class Leisure Pullover by Katherine Hunt, (published in Big Needle Knitting) is well done, with nicely sculpted shoulders and generous sizing...and fit like a glove without any adjustments. Still, something was missing...

Though I couldn't put my finger on it, he didn't seem quite as thrilled with the project as I did until it dawned on me... he wants to wear it while walking his best friend - our dog, NOLA. Using the same stitch, I quickly fashioned a small version for her...

..and VOILA!...it's his favorite sweater.

And so, in closing I will share this bit of male wisdom...

"A dog is truly a man's best friend...If you don't believe it, just try this experiment: Put your dog and your wife in the trunk of the car for an hour. When you open the trunk, who is really happy to see you!"
